Plan A....
Well, along with my sparky talented mate, I have come up with a plan. The ECU is the biggest challenge & concern, so the plot is to muck with the electrics whilst the Mondeo is a runner, cutting wires to the ECU one by one for the systems we do not need - aircon, power steering, etc - to see what, if any effect they have on the running of the engine. Probably going to do this new years day....

If all else fails, read the manual
Invested in a Haynes Manual today, mainly as I wanted to understand the electrics side of the engine a bit more (I am more of a carb and points man, myself) before I started ripping apart too much and mucked something up.
Looking throught the various elements of the ECU, the main areas where there are going to be challenges are the vehicle speed sensor (heard if not fitted engine will shut down on overrun) and the exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR) which is a load of emmissions stuff which recycles bits round the engine and back to the fuel tank and inlet. Bulky and power sapping.
The good news came when I looked under the bonnet and noticed all the stuff for the EGR was missing....looks like it isn't fitted to this engine (later black top Zetec-E). The Haynes manual is a little annoying as it is all about the silver top engine which was fitted up to April 1998....seems to assume this one is the same which was in this shape Mondeo up to September 2000. On first inspection noticed things like the power steering reservoir is in a different postion (as should be in the way of the ECU). My car is a late 2000 so assuming there is nothing nasty in place of the EGR stuff I may have struck gold.

The beginning..
Well the Pinto in my 2B continually refuses to start on demand, and is sounding a little tired, so I am doing the logical thing (I think) and upgrading to a 2.0 Zetec conversion.
The idea of this blog is to assist others doing the same conversion, and also to acquire help from others along the way!
This is the Mondeo I have brought....!
